GHHN Physician Recruitment

Who We Are

In 2023 the Physician Recruitment and Retention Program at the City of Hamilton (Hamilton Physicians) joined the Greater Hamilton Health Network as the GHHN Physician Recruitment Program.

With a focus on recruiting new family physicians and supporting those currently practicing in the community, the GHHN Physician Recruitment Program strives to improve access to primary care for all patients. Program staff help local family physicians navigate the process of transitioning into or out of practice and provide direct support in securing a successor or temporary (locum) coverage.

The GHHN Physician Recruitment Program is available to answer questions regarding the family medicine landscape, the local medical community, primary care payment models, licensing, immigration, the process of taking over a practice, options after retirement and more.

The GHHN Physician Recruitment is a small team with additional support from the Greater Hamilton Health Network, dedicated to engaging primary care and building community health in Hamilton.

Testimonials

I had the pleasure of working with Brad in 2023. I was looking for a physician to take over my family practice, and Brad was dedicated in helping me to find someone. I appreciated his attention to detail and creativity when dealing with the Ministry in ensuring a seamless transfer of my family practice to a new physician. Highly recommend!

The Physician Recruitment program was instrumental to my successful transition to independent family practice in Hamilton. Brad helped me to review the various available options in the community. He connected and assisted in ongoing communication with retiring physicians, and he helped to provide objective and unbiased advice in setting expectations during the negotiation process. We are very fortunate to have such a program available to us, as it prioritizes the necessities of both incoming and departing physicians and ensures there is support with perhaps the most important decisions of our career!

My experience and collaboration with you during the family practice office transfer to another physician in 2022-2023 was extraordinarily positive. You helped me tremendously with finding a new physician and facilitating the transfer of the practice. You were always there with support and advice when I needed it, and you were consistently present and supportive by looking for and finding additional opportunities for part-time work since my semi-retirement. It is greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone and happy November! I want to personally welcome our Haldimand partners to the GHHN. As many of you know, we are continuing to integrate with Haldimand and we are so thankful the Network is beginning to think of both areas as one OHT. We have received strong signals from the ministry that they will support this work with additional integration funding, which is very welcomed.

The GHHN’s collective work to become a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors took major steps forward over the summer. While this journey began last November with a series of in-depth consultations led by Ernst and Young, and was supported by the Health Equity Framework development led by Adrianna Tetley in the Spring, this last two months has resulted in a draft set of Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, and Governance Manual. The GHHN is the first OHT in the Province to pursue the path to incorporation, although since our work began last winter, several other OHT’s have expressed a similar intent.
